Ishizara
“Stone Plate”
Ishizara are thick stoneware plates that were produced all over Seto in the later Edo period (the latter half of the 18th century). They feature double rims and are extremely sturdy, leading to the name ishizara, or “stone plate.” The plates are deep enough to hold foods served in sauce or broth, and were valued for their versatility.
This plate has a flat rim that curls downward at its edge. This shape makes it easy to grasp with the fingers.
